Schon recht früh nach Kriegsende bildeten sich die ersten Vereine und Organisationen in Minden, die sich mit Friedensarbeit beschäftigten, obwohl der Begriff “ Friedensarbeit“ damals noch nicht geprägt war. Die Vereine engagierten sich zunächst für Versöhnung, die Integration von Flüchtlingen, viele soziale Angelegenheiten und das friedliche Zusammenleben mit den Besatzern. Später kamen Institutionen hinzu, die sich für Demokratie und Vielfalt, Integration, eine gerechtere Welt, Völkerverständigung und den europäischen Einigungsprozess engagierten.
